Towards a New Solidarity

Prayer Vigil and Meeting for Eastertide

During Eastertide, in the spirit of the way "Towards a New Solidarity" introduced by Brother Alois’ letter for 2012, one idea is for groups of young people to organise a night vigil of prayer and simple sharing together. The suggested order of service for the prayer below can be adapted according to the situation.

Begin the meeting with half an hour of small group sharing using the commentary and questions on the following page as a starting point:
Bible texts with commentary

End the meeting with a time of prayer.

Song
The Kingdom of God

Psalm

Refrain: Alleluia 10

I believed, even when I said:
Too great is the pain!
In my grief, I nearly said:
Every man is but a liar!

Then what can I offer to the Lord
for the goodness he has shown?
I will lift high Salvation’s cup,
I will praise God’s holy name.

Very dear in the eyes of the Lord
is the death of every friend;
I will serve as my mother served,
you struck off all my chains.

I will offer a sacrifice of praise,
I will call on your name;
I will walk in the presence of God,
praise him in the land of life.
from Psalm 116(115)

Reading

After the Sabbath, and towards dawn on the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala and the other Mary went to visit the sepulchre. And suddenly there was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled away the stone and sat on it. His face was like lightning, his robe white as snow. The guards were so shaken by fear of him that they were like dead men. But the angel spoke; and he said to the women, ’There is no need for you to be afraid. I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said he would. Come and see the place where he lay, then go quickly and tell his disciples, "He has risen from the dead and now he is going ahead of you to Galilee; that is where you will see him." Look! I have told you.’ Filled with awe and great joy the women came quickly away from the tomb and ran to tell his disciples.

Intercessory Prayers

Refrain: Kyrie eleison or O Christe Domine Jesu

1. O Christ, through your resurrection you open the gates of your Kingdom to all: lead us on the way of eternal life.

2. O Christ, through your resurrection you call each of us to give ourselves for others: inspire the hearts of those in positions of power, that together we may build a more just world.

3. O Christ, through your resurrection you heal our weaknesses. Support all those throughout the world suffering from hunger and sickness.

4. O Christ, through your resurrection you create a new earth and a new heaven: make us all aware of the need to take care of the world in which we live.

5. O Christ, through your resurrection you open a future of peace: affirm the hope of the young generations.

6. O Christ, through your resurrection you reconcile us with God: grant to all the baptised a communion in faith and in love.

Our Father

Prayer

Be praised, Christ Jesus, you are risen and alive today. You prepare a place with God for each one of us. We rely on your invisible presence. You said "I am with you for ever, until the end of time." May this hope of the Gospel go out to the whole of humanity!
