Portogallo 2010

Incontro a Porto

L´informazione per i partecipanti è disponibile in: Portoghese Spagnolo Inglese

At Carnival time in 2010, from February 13th to 16th, thousands of young people will meet together at Porto to search, together, for the sources of joy, through:

- the hospitality given by Portuguese families in the Porto region
- the beauty of a communion with God celebrated in prayer together
- the discovery of initiatives that seek to give a more human face to society
- the chance to meet other young people, from very diverse backgrounds
- bible reflection and the involvement of faith in social, cultural or artistic themes
- living a practical experience of Church, in a spirit of simplicity, sharing and welcome.

At a time when the horizon is darkening for many, it is important for us to come together and express once again the hope that animates us. This hope is nourished by the conviction that new harmonious relations between people can be born. A new solidarity can renew the life of our societies… How can we clear away whatever obstructs the source of hope and joy in us? Is it not, above all, by seeking to discover the presence of a loving God in our lives?

Christ, you wish for each one of us a joy, a Gospel happiness. And the peace of our heart can make life beautiful for those who surround us.
Prayer of Brother Roger

Message from the Bishop of Porto:

Dear friends,

The Lord’s Passover at Easter is real joy.

Just like the first disciples we are “filled with joy”
at the sight of the Lord of our lives and of all life,
for he has conquered even death,
assuring us of “life in abundance”.

With him we learn
“that there is more joy in giving than in receiving”,
especially when, with him, we give ourselves to the Father and to brothers and sisters,
in praise and in service.

This joy is the joy that nothing and no-one can take away from us.

It contains the “charity that will never go away”
and that the Spirit puts in our hearts.

As Christians, we know all this,
through the grace and responsibility given to us by our God.
The graces are responsibilities
to be received gratefully from God and taken to our neighbour.

This is why, at Carnival in 2010 we are going to celebrate at Porto,
with the brothers of Taizé,
“The sources of joy”.

These are always days of celebration,
but we wish them to be also, above all,
a Festival without end,
in praise, sharing and witness.

Your brother bishop awaits you at Porto,

+ Manuel Clemente
