2024 | Seventh friendship meeting between young Christians and Muslims at Taizé

The seventh edition of the friendship meeting between young Christians and Muslims will take place from Sunday, July 7 (welcome in the afternoon) to Friday, July 12, 2024 (departure in the morning). The theme of these days will be "Journeying Together". It will be an international gathering, with young people from across Europe and beyond.

Practical Information

  • □ Age of the participants : Young adults from 17 to 35 years old (possibly with adults who accompany them)
  • □ Accommodations, meals, costs of stay: see what is generally proposed for every week of the year. All the meals will be vegetarian.
  • □ Registration on the usual page. It is important to state in the commentary " AIC Meeting 2024" ("Amitié Islamo-Chrétienne")
  • □ Deadline for registrations: June 15, 2024.

General Programme

Regular daily prayer times will be offered, and a special place for Muslim prayer will be set up in one of the rooms usually used for the welcome. Muslims and Christians who wish will be able to discover what it means to pray for young people from a religious tradition other than their own. Emphasis will be placed on sharing in small groups, and the possibility of meeting others during informal free time. The meeting takes place in an atmosphere of mutual respect, and this is a condition to take part.

An imam, together with a Taizé brother, will lead the morning discussions, based on a passage from the Koran introduced by the imam, and a passage from the Bible introduced by the Taizé brother.

In mid-afternoon, after lunch and some free time to relax, everyone will be able to help with the practical tasks: washing up, cleaning, gardening, helping with the general upkeep of the Taizé premises, preparing meals, and so on.

Each day, from 5.30pm to 7pm, workshops on different topics will be offered for those who wish to take part, with some themes linked to relations between Christians and Muslims, but also workshops focusing on other subjects. In addition to the Christian-Muslim group, several hundred other young people will be present at Taizé that week.

N.B.

  • It is also possible to remain in Taizé from the afternoon of Friday July 12 to midday on Sunday July 14, to take part in the regular weekend program, with a special time of sharing on Saturday morning for the Christians and Muslims still present from the previous days.
