TAIZÉ

Lithuania: Meeting in Vilnius

Message from the President of the Republic

Welcoming words by H.E. Valdas Adamkus, President of the Republic of Lithuania, to the young participants in the Taizé Pilgrimage of Trust in Vilnius

Dear Young People!

On behalf of myself and the people of Lithuania, I extend cordial greetings to all of you who have come to Lithuania on the eve of its millennium celebrations to meet in Vilnius - the European Capital of Culture.

You are the Pilgrims of Trust, and it is trust and faith that the people of Lithuania, your own countries, Europe, and the whole world need today. You, who are following Christ on the path of life and building your future plans on the Good News of the Gospel, have come to Vilnius not only to gain new impressions, but also to strengthen your faith. During these three days, you will not only find communion with each other and with God, but you will also share the gifts you receive with your host families and with the residents and guests of Vilnius.

I firmly believe that your witness and example in the Millennium Year of Lithuania’s first encounter with the Gospel will be truly meaningful and inspiring.

I sincerely welcome you all and I wish you the grace of God and the best of impressions!

Valdas Adamkus
President of the Republic of Lithuania
