European Meeting in Taizé and online

Two ways to take part

This article was updated at the end of November: previously we had hoped to be able to welcome a limited number of people on site in Taizé. In view of the current state of the pandemic and the measures of restriction and caution still in force in France and in many other countries, we decided to hold the meeting on site only with volunteers, and online with all the young people who wish to be involved. Each person can choose one of the ways to participate from home as described below.

The current context of the pandemic presents us with the challenge of living an experience of communion and sharing in new forms. Even though participating in a stage of the pilgrimage of trust is not possible in the usual way, we are delighted in Taizé to hold an online meeting from 27 December 2020 to 1 January 2021 to which youth from all continents are invited to take part. Here are two ways to participate in this meeting.

1. Taking part by meeting with others at your local level

The first way to take part in this meeting would be to get together with a few others and participate from your town or village. You could do this in a number of ways: choose a place to spend the five days together, or get together during the day whilst staying at home, or meet up for just one day.

The suggested programme will include, online from Taizé, the common prayers and workshops, and also proposals adapted from the material that will be published online at the beginning of December – Bible texts and questions for the sharing groups, and also Brother Alois’ message for 2021.

  • We are happy to stay in touch with all those who are preparing something where they live, whether they a large group or just a few. This will also help us to know how we can support you depending on your local situation. To get in touch with us, you can register up until 23 December your local initiative via this form [https://www.taize.fr/en_article29338.html].

2. Taking part online individually

For those who cannot take part in the meeting together with others, you can participate in the meeting individually.

The online programme will include the following elements: common prayers, Bible reflection, online sharing with other young people, workshops.

  • In order to participate in the small online sharing groups, young people aged 18-35 need to register before December 20 on this specific platform [https://meet.taize.fr/register/meeting/cfb4b86e-19ff-4910-af72-726b5cb2cc1a].

Further information will soon be published on the Taizé website on these different ways of participating.

If you prefer not to form a small group or participate in international online sharing groups, you will find the midday and evening prayers and reflection workshops available on the internet. No registration is required to access certain elements of the programme in this way.
