TAIZÉ

If you’re just spending a few hours in Taizé

This information is for people who want to come to Taizé for an hour or so, without staying overnight. Please read through it carefully – it will help you, and those coming with you, to prepare your visit.

When you come to Taizé, you are welcomed at the home of a community of brothers, which, since its beginnings, has tried to unite a life of communion with God, and a desire to do everything to help peace and trust grow throughout the human family.

Everyone who comes to take part in the meetings in Taizé joins the brothers for the common worship – morning, midday and evening – which is at the heart of their community life. Even if you’re just spending a few hours in Taizé, you are also welcome to share in these times of prayer.

During your visit, there should also be time to meet with someone from the welcome team and to see one of the video films, lasting about 15 minutes, which explain a little more about what goes on in Taizé.

You can also read the yearly message which is used for the youth meetings each week.

Most people coming to Taizé take part in weeklong meetings, which run from Sunday to Sunday throughout the year. For more detailed information on the community of brothers, or the weekly meetings, please check the information on our site and register as indicated.

If you are just coming to Taizé for a few hours, it’s best to visit during the morning. That will allow you to take part in the 12.20 midday prayer (weekdays) or the 10.00 Eucharist (Sundays);

Weekdays
- plan to arrive around 10.00 / 10.30 then meeting with someone from the welcome team – an opportunity to hear something about the life of the community and the youth meetings – followed by the short video about Taizé.
- 12.20 midday prayer

Sundays
- plan to arrive around 9.30 / 9.45
- 10.00 Eucharist
- 11.30 meeting with someone from the welcome team – an opportunity to hear something about the life of the community and the youth meetings – followed by the short video about Taizé.

You are welcome also to stay for one of the meals. These meals (€ 4.00 per person) are very simple and are served outdoors. You’re welcome, of course, to bring your own packed lunch if you prefer. Should you want to spend the whole day in Taizé, you’ll be asked to make a contribution to costs based on the daily contribution suggested for those staying in Taizé (consult the web site for this, or the other information papers).

We can be fairly flexible with the programme for your visit. You may prefer to come for evening prayer, which is also possible. Saturday is perhaps the best day for this. In any case, please call or e-mail us before fixing the final details for your day.

When everything is decided, please fill in the online registration form. As you will not be staying overnight there is no need, if you are bringing a group, to provide full details for each person. Please simply indicate, right at the end of the form, on the Summary page, how many people you expect to bring.

If you have to cancel your visit or if you change your arrival time at the last moment, please let us know.
