Does it not sometimes happen that, without realizing it, the older generations prepare a way forward for the young towards trust in God? Young people from Estonia said: “If we have become believers and if we are here in Taizé, it is because of our grandmothers. Most of them were sent away from their country for many years. Over there, in the place to which they were deported, all they had to keep them going was faith. They are simple women. They did not understand the reason for so much suffering. Some have come back; they are transparent and without bitterness. For us now, they are saints.”
