Support for several projects for children and youth
UkraineSince February 2022, the Taizé community has sought to show solidarity with Ukraine in various ways, both spiritually and materially. More than a thousand refugees were welcomed in the weeks following the large-scale invasion, most of them for a night on their way south across the continent, and around the same time, Taizé set up a platform to connect refugees with host families in several European countries. Some refugees were hosted more permanently, such as a family in the Ternopil region, then a mother who arrived from Kherson with her two children; and in 2025, a mother from Dnipro lives at Taizé with her son.
The community also participated in solidarity collections in connection with the Clunisois community association, and later with the Franche-Comté based association "Les Convois Solidaires". The community also connected project initiators in Ukraine with NGOs "Ouest France Solidarité" in France and "Misereor" in Germany.
Through its solidarity fund "Operation Hope", Taizé has supported since three years various projects in Ukraine, mostly related to children, adolescents, youth and students, such as a Kyiv foundation that provides aid to families affected by the war in Ukraine, an organization that helps children who have lost one or both parents due to the war, an online learning platform for displaced children, several youth movements like "BUR" or "Vilniy Prostir", the Caritas Ukraine office in the Chernihiv region, as well as seminars and parishes of various confessions.
Finally, brothers have travelled many times to Ukraine for visits to meet with local church leaders and civil authorities.
- to express spiritual closeness to the young people of Ukraine
- to lead prayers or youth gatherings in various places
- to visit on site the leaders of the churches and civil authorities
- to discover and support solidarity initiatives.
