Taizé in Ukraine: A Month of Solidarity and Friendship
October 2026
Throughout October, a delegation from Taizé is staying in Ukraine as a sign of solidarity and friendship with this deeply afflicted country. It is a simple, concrete way of telling Ukrainians that they are not forgotten. Everywhere, the welcome has been very warm, involving many young people and leaders from the various Christian denominations present in Ukraine.
A dozen cities visited
Over the past two weeks, a brother of the community has travelled across Ukraine to meet the people who live there. He has visited a dozen cities, from Lviv to Odesa, from Kyiv to Kharkiv, including Pavlohrad and Izyum.
The visit continues: a brother and a married couple who have lived in Taizé for more than twenty years have just arrived in the city of Zhytomyr, from where they will continue to meet local people and share moments of friendship and prayer.
Two upcoming events
- In Kyiv, a prayer with Taizé songs will take place on Saturday, October 17 at 7pm at the Latin Cathedral of St Oleksandr, just steps from Maidan Square. In Zhytomyr, another prayer will take place on October 22 at 7.30pm in the church of the Divine Mercy.
- Young Ukrainians are preparing to take part in the 49th European Meeting, which will be held in Łódź, Poland, at the end of the year. An information evening is being held on Friday evening in Lviv, at the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU). Admission is free, with registration required. For more information: [email protected]
