What is European Meeting?

The European meetings are part of the ‘pilgrimage of trust on earth’, originally initiated by Brother Roger, founder of the Taizé Community, to support young people committed to seeking peace, unity and solidarity. Common prayer plays a central role in these meetings, whether it takes place in a large venue with thousands of participants or in churches in neighbourhoods and villages throughout the host region, together with local communities.

For more than five decades, the ecumenical community of Taizé has organised a European youth meeting at the end of each year in a major city on the continent, from Rome to London, Lisbon to Riga, Warsaw to Madrid... The most recent meetings took place in Turin, Rostock, Ljubljana and Tallinn at the end of December 2024.

These meetings are held at the invitation of local churches, in close collaboration with the civil authorities of the host city and the surrounding region. They rely on the involvement of a large number of participants and the hospitality of the local population.
