Sing a new song to the Lord,
sing praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel rejoice in its maker,
let Zion’s people exult in their king.

Let them praise God’s name with dancing
and make music with timbrel and harp
For the Lord takes delight in his people,
and crowns the poor with salvation.

Let the faithful rejoice in their glory,
shout for joy and take their rest.
Let the praise of God be on their lips...
This honor is for all God’s people.

Paul wrote: I handed on to you as of first importance what I in turn had received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.

On the day of Jesus’ resurrection, two of his disciples were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing him. (...) And he said to them, “Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and then enter into his glory?” Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things about himself in all the scriptures. As they came near the village to which they were going, he walked ahead as if he were going on. But they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, because it is almost evening and the day is now nearly over.” So he went in to stay with them. When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; and he vanished from their sight. They said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us?”

Prayer

Risen Christ, through the Gospel your voice makes itself heard softly. You tell us: “Why worry? Only one thing is necessary, a heart attentive to my words and to the Holy Spirit.”
