These days of meeting have been a blessing for me. Meeting with other cultures was overwhelming. In our sharing group, there were Europeans, Syrians, Lebanese and an Iranian. A few weeks after the Beirut meeting, our hearts are still full of gratitude for what we were able to experience in Lebanon. Around 1,600 young adults, aged between 18 and 35, took part in five days of meetings, sharing and prayer.

200 young people came together in Egypt from 26 September to 1 October 2017 at the initiative of Taizé. Half of them came from various cities in the country, and the other half from several countries in the Middle East and Europe. Among the countries represented were Ethiopia, Iraq and Lebanon as well as Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Poland.

In these months of conflict, prayer for the peoples of the Near East, for all who are seeking a just and lasting peace in that region, has become more intense in Taizé. Especially since several Palestinians have recently taken part in meetings on the hill, among them three children whose grandparents live in Gaza.
