Springtime for the soul in Chile.
At the beginning of October, two of the brothers set out from Taizé to spend a month in Chile. Their goal was to bring a breath of fresh air to the pilgrimage of trust that we lived in December 2010.
« El Alma que anda en amor, ni cansa ni se cansa »
« The soul filled by love never tires others nor grows tired »When they arrived, the Chile they discovered was going through the trials of difficult political and social situations, marked above all by the student conflict where thousands of students demonstrated (...)

After the meeting in Santiago, Chile, two brothers stayed there to continue the Pilgrimage of Trust by organising some prayers and small meetings for reflection, in the central region of Chile. In the same way, since Santiago a brother has travelled as far as Peru, to visit young people who had been to the December meeting. In two of the poorest districts of Lima: Callao and Campoy, there were prayers and times when the young people could share, to talk about what the Pilgrimage of Trust means in their setting, and to reflect on the topics (...)

Young people from Haiti who were volunteers in Taizé in recent years write from their beleaguered country:Jean-Paul, January 15
I thank God for having spared me that sudden death. But it would be better to die than to live in such a situation. No more food, no money transfers; the banks that have not been destroyed are closed. All the universities have been destroyed. The corpses are in the streets. Epidemics have already been announced. I can tell you about it, but you cannot imagine this hell. Why us? The chapel of my parish is destroyed. (...)

During the last two weeks of October, two of the brothers – one of whom is Bolivian — made visits in three cities of Bolivia. Here are some of their impressions.Santa Cruz de la Sierra
We arrived on Sunday, October 25th in the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, the capital of the department of Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz is the largest department in Bolivia and certainly the most economically vigorous. With its natural resources of soya, sunflower, sugar, milk, livestock, wood, and natural gas, Santa Cruz produces 31 % of the gross national product (...)

Hernán from Argentina spent three months as a volunteer in Taizé. Here he tells of his experiences after his return home. With the support of the youth ministry and the diocesan commission for interreligious and ecumenical dialogue, for several years now we have been organising prayers with the songs of Taizé in our diocese of San Isidro, with young adults who have been volunteers in Taizé for three months or more. People of different generations also take part in these special prayers; an ecumenical prayer is not something very usual in our (...)

One of the brothers describes his visit to Mexico at the beginning of June 2005.When you reach Mexico City, you are immediately struck by its great size; the plane is above the city for 15 minutes before you arrive at the airport, that is located in the very heart of the city, and it seems to take for ever, as you look down on houses, whole neighbourhoods, until at last you land. The first impression on arrival is of a very modern country, but you slowly realize that there are considerable difficulties.
The evening I arrived, there was a (...)
